Grape Ape is a 90% indica created by Apothecary Genetics and Barney's Farm from three strains: Mendocino Purps (grape aroma + anthocyanin genetics), Skunk #1 (hybrid vigor and structure), and Afghani (body sedation and resin production). It won the High Times Green Cup in 2005 and 2006.

Myrcene dominates the terpene panel, producing a body-heavy, sedative effect that feels stronger than the THC percentage suggests — Myrcene is believed to amplify cannabinoid uptake. The aroma is dense Concord grape with a musky earth base, closer to grape juice concentrate than candy or citrus. Deep purple coloring develops in cold conditions from Mendocino Purps' anthocyanin genetics; Vermont's cool fall nights make it one of the better environments for full purple expression.

Grape Ape is Zkittlez's primary parent (Grape Ape × Grapefruit + unknown). The Grapefruit cross shifted Zkittlez's terpene profile from Myrcene-dominant to Caryophyllene-dominant and dramatically lightened the body effect — making Zkittlez a balanced hybrid while Grape Ape remains a 90% indica. Appropriate for experienced consumers; evening and pre-sleep use only.
