BurlingtonDispensaries.com is committed to making Vermont cannabis information usable by everyone, including people who navigate the web with assistive technology. This page describes our accessibility target, what we've done, known gaps, and how to reach us if something on the site is getting in your way.
Our target: WCAG 2.1 Level AA
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard referenced by U.S. ADA guidance and by the State of Vermont for state-run services.
What we've done
- Semantic HTML β headings, lists, and landmarks
(
header, nav, main, footer) are used so screen readers can navigate sections. - Color contrast β the core palette
(deep green
#1a3a2a, cream#f8f5f0, gold#d4a853) is tuned to meet 4.5:1 body-text contrast on primary surfaces. - Keyboard navigation β all primary interactive elements (links, buttons, the mobile menu toggle, newsletter form, interactive tools) are reachable and operable with a keyboard.
- Focus styles β visible focus rings on links and buttons.
- Alt text β decorative imagery is hidden from
assistive tech; informational images carry meaningful
alttext. - Form labels β every form input (including the newsletter signup) has a label, even when visually hidden.
- Readable type β Inter variable font at 16px+ body, comfortable line-height and max-width for long-form reading.
- Reduced motion β we avoid auto-playing motion;
animated interactions respect the browser's
prefers-reduced-motionsetting where applicable.
Known limitations
We want to be honest about gaps we are still closing:
- Interactive map (/map) β the Leaflet-based map is partially accessible. Markers are keyboard- reachable but panning and zooming by keyboard is limited. A full list of dispensaries in plain HTML is available at /dispensaries as a non-map alternative.
- Custom quiz / planner tools β the Strain Match Quiz, Dispensary Crawl Planner, and Weather Γ Strain tools are keyboard-operable but have not yet been audited with every screen reader. If you hit friction, please contact us.
- Third-party embedded content β if we ever embed third-party widgets (Google Maps iframes, social embeds), those are subject to the provider's accessibility, which we do not control.
- Older blog posts β a small number of legacy posts may use casual heading structure (e.g. skipping H3 β H5). We are normalizing these as we re-edit.

Please include (if you can): the page URL, what you were trying to do, the assistive technology or browser you were using, and what happened. No special knowledge required β a screenshot or a short description is plenty.
Formal review
This site has been reviewed with automated tools (axe, Lighthouse) and by manual keyboard testing. A formal third-party audit has not been performed; we plan one once the interactive tools stabilize.
