Orange County VT Dispensaries Guide: Polestar Cannabis and Devil's Den (2026)

Orange County, Vermont stretches from I-89 in the west to I-91 and the New Hampshire border in the east — a rural county of rolling hills, river valleys, and roughly 29,000 residents. The county has no major city; Chelsea, its shire town, has under 1,300 people. But the county does have two CCB-licensed adult-use cannabis dispensaries, one on each of its two interstates, serving two completely different travel corridors.

TL;DR: Polestar Cannabis (Randolph, I-89 Exit 4) and Devil's Den Cannabis Co. (Bradford, I-91 Exit 16) are Orange County's only two dispensaries. Both charge 20% cannabis tax. Polestar is on the Burlington–White River Junction I-89 axis; Devil's Den anchors the I-91 axis and is the first Vermont shop for many NH cross-border buyers. Neither town has a local option surcharge.

Polestar Cannabis — Randolph, VT (I-89 Exit 4)

Polestar Cannabis at 24 Pleasant Street in downtown Randolph was the first CCB-licensed cannabis dispensary to serve the White River Valley and the 36th licensed in Vermont. Founder Jon Erdman opened the shop in 2024 in the Trillium Building, a short walk from Wee Bird Bagel Café in Randolph's downtown core.

The shop carries flower, pre-rolls, vapes, edibles, concentrates, topicals, and tinctures from local and regional Vermont producers, including flower from Pinnacle Valley Farms in Randolph — meaning some of the cannabis in the display case was grown in the same town. The shop has a boutique atmosphere: soft lighting, display cases, and staff oriented toward first-time visitors as much as regulars. Online ordering through Dutchie lets you browse the menu and pre-select before arriving. A VIPolestar loyalty program rewards repeat purchases with 5% cash back on every transaction.

Randolph's location on I-89 at Exit 4 — widely described as Vermont's geographic center — makes Polestar a natural corridor stop. The Burlington-to-White-River-Junction run on I-89 passes directly through Randolph; for anyone on that axis without a dispensary stop planned, Polestar fills a real gap between the Barre–Montpelier cluster (~22–25 miles north) and White River Junction (~30 miles south).

Devil's Den Cannabis Co. — Bradford, VT (I-91 Exit 16)

Devil's Den Cannabis Co. at 214 Main Street in Bradford sits directly off I-91 at Exit 16, on the Connecticut River — Vermont's border with New Hampshire. Owners Kendall and Travis Gendron also run Vittles House of Brews, a coffee shop a block away on Main Street; Bradford voters approved retail cannabis sales in a 166–91 town vote. The shop takes its name from the Devil's Den trail network on nearby Wright's Mountain — a genuinely local business, not a chain outpost.

Devil's Den carries a notably broad product menu for a rural Vermont location: Vermont-grown flower across many strains, plus pre-rolls, edibles, vapes, concentrates, tinctures, infused cannabis drinks, topicals, rolling papers, accessories, and Vermont-made glass — one of the more complete small-town menus in the state. Online ordering for pickup is available through the website. Google rating: 4.6★ from 83 reviews as of mid-2026.

Bradford's position on I-91 at the Connecticut River makes Devil's Den the first adult-use dispensary many New Hampshire residents encounter when heading west into Vermont. New Hampshire has no adult-use cannabis retail as of mid-2026. Lebanon NH (~25 miles south on I-91) and Hanover NH — home to Dartmouth College — are regular sources of cross-border traffic. Any cannabis purchased at Devil's Den must stay in Vermont; transporting it back across the river into NH is a federal offense.

Two Dispensaries, Two Interstates

Polestar and Devil's Den never compete for the same customers — they serve two entirely different driving corridors across a county that is roughly 40 miles wide.

On weekdays, Devil's Den runs the longest hours in the county — 9 AM to 7 PM Monday through Saturday, opening an hour earlier and closing an hour later than Polestar's usual 10 AM–6 PM (Polestar matches the 7 PM close only on Fridays). Sundays reverse it: Polestar stays open until 5 PM while Devil's Den runs a short 10 AM–3 PM day, so Polestar is the better late-Sunday option.

Orange County, VT: The Context

Orange County is a stretch of central Vermont between the two-interstate corridors. The county seat is Chelsea — a town of under 1,300 people with no cannabis dispensary. Most of the county's 29,000 residents live in a dozen small towns, with Randolph (~4,700) and Bradford (~2,800) as the two population anchors.

The county connects two completely different kinds of Vermont travel:

• I-89 (Randolph / Polestar): The Burlington-to-White-River-Junction interstate, passing through the geographic center of Vermont. Traffic includes commuters, leaf-peepers on the fall foliage circuit, and anyone driving between Chittenden County and the Upper Valley.
• I-91 (Bradford / Devil's Den): The north-south Connecticut River corridor, from the Massachusetts border to the Quebec border. Traffic includes Upper Valley NH residents, Dartmouth visitors, and trucks using the river valley as the primary freight route.

The two shops are connected by a cross-county drive on Routes 25 and 110 — about 35 miles, roughly 45 minutes. There is no practical transit between them. Visitors based in one corridor have no reason to drive to the other dispensary; each shop serves its corridor cleanly.

Vermont Cannabis Law in Orange County (2026)

Who can buy: Adults 21 and older with valid government-issued photo ID — driver's license, passport, or Real ID. No medical card required for adult-use purchases at either dispensary.

Possession limits (S.278, effective July 1, 2026): Adults 21+ may now possess up to 2 ounces of flower and 10 grams of concentrate — double the prior 1-ounce / 5-gram limit that S.278 replaced.

Cannabis tax: 20% total in both towns — a 14% cannabis excise tax plus the 6% Vermont state sales tax. Neither Randolph nor Bradford has adopted the optional 1% local option surcharge. (For contrast: Montpelier, Barre, and Waitsfield all charge 21% with that surcharge.)

Where you can consume: Private property only, with the property owner's permission. Public consumption is prohibited. Vermont has no licensed cannabis consumption lounges as of mid-2026.

Interstate transport: Vermont cannabis cannot legally cross state lines. For NH residents shopping at Devil's Den, cannabis purchased in Bradford must stay in Vermont — crossing the Connecticut River back into NH with it is a federal offense regardless of either state's adult-use policy.

Vermont medical patients: Vermont's CCB now allows adult-use retailers to apply for a medical-use endorsement to serve registered patients tax-free. Check the CCB's current endorsed-retailer list or call each dispensary ahead of your visit to confirm whether they carry an endorsement.
