Bruce Banner was bred by Jason Holck (OG Ironlung) of Dark Horse Genetics in Colorado around 2008–2009, crossing a Ghost OG cut (OG Kush phenotype) with Strawberry Diesel from Reservoir Seeds. Five phenotypes emerged; Bruce Banner #3 became the most celebrated after testing 28.35% THC at the 2013 Denver Cannabis Cup — naming it "Most Potent Strain" and setting a benchmark for high-THC cannabis that shaped the industry's subsequent potency race.

Terpene profile is a three-way near-tie: Myrcene, Limonene, and Caryophyllene each contribute roughly equally, explaining the strain's hybrid character — diesel and sweet-berry aroma from both parents, and a two-phase effect that opens with Limonene-driven cerebral euphoria before transitioning into body relaxation. An experienced-consumer strain; the 20–28% THC range is not appropriate for new users.
