Quick Answer
South Burlington's only dispensary — Champlain Valley Dispensary at 2 Green Tree Drive — closed permanently in December 2024 when its operator, Ceres Collaborative, shut down all of its Vermont cannabis businesses following its parent company's bankruptcy. As of June 2026, no licensed cannabis dispensaries operate within South Burlington city limits. The nearest options are in Burlington's South End, roughly 7–10 minutes west: Upstate Elevator Supply Co. at 699 Pine Street (open Mon–Sat 8:30 AM–7 PM, Sun 10 AM–6 PM, dedicated free parking) and Heybud Dispensary at 291 Saint Paul Street (open Mon–Sat 8 AM–10 PM, Sun 10 AM–8 PM). Both carry Vermont-grown flower and in-house brand products. If you need a medical dispensary, Hello, Hi in Winooski (46 Main St) holds Vermont's integrated medical-plus-recreational license and is 10–12 minutes northeast. Vermont requires a valid 21+ ID. Public possession limit is 2 oz of cannabis flower as of July 1, 2026.
South Burlington is home to Vermont's only commercial airport, a dense retail corridor along Shelburne Road and Williston Road, and about 20,000 residents — but no cannabis dispensaries. The city's only shop, Champlain Valley Dispensary at 2 Green Tree Drive, closed permanently in December 2024 when its operator wound down all of its Vermont cannabis businesses following its parent company's bankruptcy. No replacement has opened since. As of the Vermont Cannabis Control Board's June 2026 licensee list, zero CCB-licensed retail shops operate within South Burlington's city limits. The nearest options are 7–15 minutes away depending on direction. Here is every nearby cluster, organized by travel time and what makes each worth the drive.

Why South Burlington Has No Dispensaries Right Now
South Burlington did have a licensed dispensary: Champlain Valley Dispensary (CVD) operated an integrated medical and adult-use shop at 2 Green Tree Drive under Ceres Collaborative, Vermont's largest medical cannabis operator at the time. In December 2024, Ceres's Canadian parent company, Slang Worldwide, entered bankruptcy, and Ceres notified the Vermont Cannabis Control Board that it was shutting down all of its adult-use and medical businesses statewide. The South Burlington location closed permanently that month. As of June 2026, no new CCB-licensed retailer has opened at that location or anywhere else in South Burlington's city limits.
Vermont's adult-use law (Act 164) gives municipalities opt-out rights, but South Burlington has not opted out of cannabis retail — the current gap is simply that no new applicant has yet obtained CCB approval and local zoning clearance for a South Burlington address. A new shop could open in the future. We monitor the CCB licensee list weekly and will update this page if any South Burlington location receives approval.
Zone 1: Burlington South End — 7–9 Minutes West (Closest)
Burlington's South End Arts District — centered on Pine Street south of downtown — has two dispensaries that are the most airport-convenient and closest-to-South-Burlington options in the region. From I-89 Exit 14 (Pine Street), you're at Upstate Elevator in under five minutes. From Williston Road or Shelburne Road in South Burlington, add a few minutes for the surface-street leg.
Upstate Elevator Supply Co. — 699 Pine Street, Suite C
Hours: Mon–Sat 8:30 AM–7:00 PM | Sun 10:00 AM–6:00 PM
Phone: (888) 640-2155 | Website: upstateelevatorvt.com
License: Integrated (Retail + Cultivation + Manufacturing) | Payment: Cash; loyalty program available
Upstate Elevator is Burlington's largest vertically integrated dispensary — the company grows, manufactures, and retails its own Vermont-produced cannabis from a single 699 Pine Street flagship that was renovated in 2024. The result is one of the most polished shop environments in Chittenden County: larger footprint, well-organized shelves, and a broad in-house product line covering flower, pre-rolls, gummies, tinctures, vapes, and topicals, all cultivated and manufactured in Vermont.
For South Burlington and BTV-area visitors, the location is ideal. The shop is directly off the I-89 Pine Street interchange: take Exit 14 from I-89 northbound, stay on Pine Street south, and the shop is in the surface lot on the right. Free dedicated parking directly adjacent. The 8:30 AM weekday open is earlier than most competitors; if you're catching a morning flight out of BTV and want to pick something up before the airport, Upstate Elevator is the practical choice.

Heybud Dispensary — 291 Saint Paul Street
Hours: Mon–Sat 8:00 AM–10:00 PM | Sun 10:00 AM–8:00 PM
Phone: (802) 540-0541 | Website: heybudheybud.com
License: Adult-Use Retail | Payment: Cash; ATM available
Heybud anchors the corner of Saint Paul and Howard streets in the Five Sisters neighborhood, a few blocks from Upstate Elevator. What Heybud offers that most nearby shops don't is breadth of hours: 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM Monday through Saturday gives you the widest window in the South End — two-and-a-half hours longer in the evening than Upstate Elevator. On Sundays it closes at 8 PM (versus 6 PM at Upstate), a meaningful difference for weekend evening runs.
The menu covers flower, pre-rolls, concentrates, vapes, and edibles with a notable emphasis on Heybud-branded concentrates (Tuesday brings a 10% discount on Heybud rosin vapes; all Heybud concentrates carry an ongoing 20% off). The shop has a loyal South End following and a 4.9 Google rating. Free parking is available in a small lot adjacent to the building.

Zone 2: Downtown Burlington — 10–15 Minutes Northwest
Downtown Burlington's Church Street cluster — Float On, True 802, Lucky You, Garcia's Cannabis Collective, Bern Gallery, and others — is about 10 to 15 minutes northwest from South Burlington via I-89 North (Exit 14W) or Shelburne Road north. The shops are excellent, but parking during peak hours requires navigating the Marketplace Garage or metered lots. If you have flexibility, the South End shops give you easier access. That said, the Church Street cluster has the widest variety of stores and is ideal if you want to browse multiple menus on foot.
The Herb Closet at 196 Pearl Street is worth noting for South Burlington residents who want a late option: open until midnight Sunday through Thursday and until 2 AM Friday and Saturday — by far the latest hours of any dispensary in the Burlington area.
Zone 3: Essex Junction — 10–12 Minutes East
Essex Junction is approximately 7 to 9 miles east of South Burlington via Route 2 East or I-89 North to Exit 12. For residents near the Williston Road / UMall / I-89 corridor, Essex Junction is often as fast as the Burlington South End — and its three dispensaries have free, abundant parking with none of the downtown congestion.
Magic Mann — 21 Essex Way, Suite 216 (Essex Shoppes)
Hours: 10:00 AM–9:00 PM, seven days a week
Phone: (802) 871-5810 | Website: magicmann.com
License: Integrated (Medical + Adult-Use Retail) | Payment: Cash only (ATM on site)
Magic Mann is one of only two dispensaries near South Burlington that hold Vermont's integrated medical-plus-adult-use retail license — Hello, Hi in Winooski is the other — meaning registered medical patients can shop here for their full medical allotment and receive the 14% excise tax exemption. Magic Mann is the only integrated shop in the Essex Junction cluster, and it also has the latest closing time there, staying open until 9 PM seven days a week. If you are a medical patient, or if you need an evening option after 7 PM east of Burlington, Magic Mann is the right destination.

The High Bar — 159 Pearl Street, Essex Junction
Hours: Mon–Thu 10:00 AM–7:00 PM | Fri 10:00 AM–8:00 PM | Sat–Sun 11:00 AM–7:00 PM
Phone: (802) 404-3842 | Website: thehighbar.com
License: Adult-Use Retail | Payment: Apple Pay, credit cards, and cash
The High Bar accepts Apple Pay and credit cards — one of the very few Vermont dispensaries to do so. The menu focuses on small Vermont craft farmers, and staff are trained to walk through COAs (Certificates of Analysis) if you want to know terpene profiles and cultivator information. Sweetspot Essex Junction is directly across Pearl Street, so you can visit both without moving your car.
See the full High Bar listing, directions, and payment details.
Zone 4: Winooski — 10–15 Minutes Northeast
Winooski's three dispensaries sit within a tight cluster around East Allen Street and Main Street in the city's compact walkable core, about 10 to 15 minutes northeast of South Burlington via I-89 North to Exit 15 (Winooski) or Route 2A northeast. Winooski is one of the best-parked dispensary clusters in Chittenden County — free surface lots at all three shops, none of the meter headaches of Church Street.
Hello, Hi — 46 Main Street, Suite 102, Winooski
Hours: Mon–Wed 10:30 AM–6:30 PM | Thu–Sat 10:30 AM–8:00 PM | Sun 10:00 AM–6:00 PM
Phone: (802) 209-5958 | Website: hellohivt.com
License: Integrated (Medical + Adult-Use Retail) | Payment: Confirm with shop
Hello, Hi was Vermont's first co-located medical and recreational dispensary, and it remains one of only a handful with that dual designation in Chittenden County. Medical patients can complete their full medical purchase here. The shop also uses an effect-based menu layout — products organized by what you want to feel (relax, focus, sleep, elevate, relieve) rather than by strain name or indica/sativa category — which makes it one of the easier dispensaries to navigate for first-time buyers.
See the full Hello, Hi listing and menu.
Winooski Organics — 165 East Allen Street, Winooski
Hours: Mon–Wed 8:30 AM–8:00 PM | Thu–Sat 8:30 AM–9:00 PM | Sun 8:30 AM–6:00 PM
Phone: (802) 899-9333 | Website: winooskiorganics.com
License: Adult-Use Retail | Payment: Confirm with shop
Winooski Organics opens at 8:30 AM every day of the week — one of the earliest opening times in the county — and leans heavily on Vermont craft cultivators and community education. The shop runs cultivation spotlights and community events alongside its retail operation. If you care about the provenance of your flower and want staff who can speak to terpene profiles in detail, this is the shop. Friday and Saturday they stay open until 9 PM.

Dome City Cannabis Dispensary — 147 East Allen Street, Winooski
Hours: 10:00 AM–7:00 PM, seven days a week
Phone: (802) 540-1343 | Website: domecityvt.com
License: Adult-Use Retail | Payment: Confirm with shop
Dome City is one block from Winooski Organics on the same East Allen Street stretch, making it easy to compare menus in a single stop. The shop takes a straightforward, efficient approach: consistent 10–7 hours every day of the week with no weekday/weekend variation, a full product lineup from flower to accessories, and a Club Dome loyalty program with discounts for veterans, seniors, students, first responders, and healthcare and hospitality workers.

Note for BTV Airport Visitors
Burlington International Airport is in South Burlington. If you're flying in and want to pick up cannabis before heading downtown, Upstate Elevator at 699 Pine Street is the most direct stop — take Williston Road west from the airport to I-89 North, then Exit 14 southbound (Pine Street). The shop is on the right in a dedicated lot. Total drive is 7–9 minutes from the terminal.
If you're flying out, do not bring cannabis through BTV security. The airport is federal property; TSA refers cannabis finds to law enforcement regardless of Vermont state law. Plan to consume or dispose of any remaining product before arriving at the terminal. This applies to all formats: flower, edibles, vape cartridges, and concentrates.
Getting There from South Burlington Without a Car
South Burlington is car-dependent for most trips, but Green Mountain Transit provides two useful routes for cannabis runs:
- Route 1 (Williston Road): Connects South Burlington's Williston Road corridor to downtown Burlington, where Church Street dispensaries are within a short walk. From downtown, the South End shops (Upstate Elevator, Heybud) are an additional 10–15 minute walk south on Pine Street or a quick rideshare.
- Route 6 (Shelburne Road): Connects South Burlington's Shelburne Road corridor to downtown Burlington. Same downtown transfer applies.
- Route 2 (Essex–Winooski–Burlington): Passes through South Burlington and connects to Essex Junction and Winooski, giving car-free access to the east and northeast clusters.
Check ridegmt.com for current schedules and fares. Most buses run every 30–60 minutes on weekdays with reduced service on weekends.
Vermont Cannabis Rules (as of 2026)
- Age: 21 and older, valid government-issued photo ID required. Driver's license, passport, or Real ID all accepted.
- Possession: Up to 2 ounces of cannabis flower in public as of July 1, 2026 (S.278 doubled the previous 1-oz limit). Concentrate possession limit remains 5 grams.
- Consumption: Illegal in any public place in Vermont. Consume only in a private residence where you have permission — not a hotel room unless the property explicitly allows it, not a park, not a car.
- Tax: Vermont charges a 14% cannabis excise tax plus a 6% state sales tax. Burlington, Winooski, and Essex Junction have each adopted a 1% local option sales tax, which applies to cannabis — so the effective rate at every nearby shop (Upstate Elevator, Heybud, Magic Mann, Hello Hi, Winooski Organics, Dome City) is about 21% (14% + 6% + 1%). Registered Vermont Medical Cannabis Program patients shopping at the integrated shops (Magic Mann, Hello, Hi) are exempt from the 14% excise tax.
- Driving: Cannabis-impaired driving is illegal and enforced. If you're visiting from out of state, leave any purchased product sealed in your trunk for the drive home. Do not bring it through BTV security.
